Pest Library: Mice

Mice are about 2-3 inches long and their tails are about 3 or 4 inches in length. They have small, slender bodies weighing from 1 oz up to 3 oz. Mice have a pointy nose, large ears and are light brown to light gray in color.

Their eyesight is very poor and mice are color blind. Mice have an excellent sense of smell, taste, touch, and hearing.

Mice are the second-most successful mammal on the planet — only man is more successful.

Mice will enter homes and populate year round. Mice mature at just 35 days old and carry embryos for about 21 days and can have another litter every 40 to 50 days. Most homeowners discover a mouse problem in the winter when mice start accumulating food to store for the winter months.

They can enter homes through openings larger than 1/4".
