Pest Library: Bats

(Click on an image to enlarge)

Bats are small mammals 2 to 4 inches in length and weighing about 1/2 oz. Their wingspan is approximately 9 to 11 inches. They are brown to light gray in color and can live up to 30 years.

Bats will nest in attics, barns, caves, hollow trees, and so forth. They prefer areas of increased warmth because this helps the pups to mature faster.

Bats are beneficial to the environment and eat approximately half their body weight in mosquitoes every night. Bats are also protected by the Federal government and any treatment for bat control should be limited to humane methods.
